Field hockey is relatively similar to soccer and lacrosse. Games are played on a field with two teams of eleven players each. Each game is divided into two 30 minute halves. Positions include forwards, midfielders, defenders, sweepers and goalies. More information regarding how to play can be found here.
The high school girls field hockey season takes place from August to October. Practices will be held for Saint Viator at Heritage Park in Wheeling, IL. We intend to have three or four practices each week. We hope to allow for players to be continue to participate in other club sport or extracurricular activity commitments during this season.
All players are required to purchase and play with a mouth guard, protective face mask, and shin guards along with a field hockey stick. Cleats are recommended, but not necessary to play with. Field hockey sticks can be purchased online; local sports stores do not carry sticks. You can find sticks and equipment here:
Coach Reichel played Field Hockey for Old Dominion University and coached at New Trier High School.
She has been raising her family "in the best village in Illinois (aka Arlington Heights!). Her side hustle is being a math tutor.
